Ontario’s sustainable energy champions awarded

The Ontario Sustainable Energy Association handed out its 5th annual Powering Prosperity Awards at a dinner in Vaughn, Ont.

More than 300 energy leaders attended the celebration to honour those who champion sustainable energy solutions in the province.

Eight award categories recognized organizations and individuals from the aboriginal community and public and private sectors.

There were two winners for the Sustainable Project of the Year: Park Property Management Inc. and the deep retrofits for industrial, commercial and institutional buildings and district energy initiative using Local Improvement Charges (the LIC initiative).

The Carpenters Union presented the Special Recognition Award to PCL Constructors Canada Inc., based in Toronto, while the Aboriginal Project of the Year went to Matt Jamieson of Six Nations.

John J. Dogterom of MaRS Cleantech received the 20/20 Leadership Award and Phillip Playfair of Lowfoot was named Smartpreneur of the Year.

Developer of the Year went to Brant Renewable Energy, while Manufacturer of the Year went to two winners: Celestica and Gerald van Decker of RenewABILITY Energy Inc.

Oxford Community Energy Co-operative and SolarShare Co-operative were both recognized with Community Project of the Year awards.
