Climate change action champions are encouraged to apply for the 2015 Minister’s Award for Environmental Excellence.

The award recognizes contributions, such as improved air quality, the reduction of greenhouse gases, creating more resilient communities and showcasing proven ways to fight climate change.

“This award honours local, innovative heroes and champions who take bold action to fight climate change in their communities,” said Glen Murray, minister of environment and climate change. “Their work helps keep our air, land, and water clean, and ensures Ontario’s prosperity and quality of life for today and for future generations.”

Applications will be accepted until October 30, 2015. Since 2011 there have been 21 winners and 19 honourable mentions.

Past recipients include York University for its “Res Race to Zero” competition, which reduced energy use in several residences by 30 per cent and Western University for implementing an energy dashboard to help staff identify and mitigate energy peaks.
