The Ontario government has officially broken ground on Windsor-Essex’s new Fancsy Family Hospital that will expand acute care services through a $202-million provincial investment.

Once complete, the approximately two-million square foot facility will add space for more than 100 additional hospital beds and deliver a new 24/7 emergency department, cancer care, complex trauma support, maternal and newborn care, surgical services and critical care, and neurology and cardiology services.

“This is an incredibly exciting, transformative milestone for Windsor Regional Hospital and our entire community, who have been working toward this day since the need for a new hospital was first identified more than a decade ago,” said Kristin Kennedy, president and CEO of Windsor Regional Hospital.

The Fancsy Family Hospital project is part of the province’s plan to invest $64 billion in more than 50 major hospital projects over the next 10 years to deliver approximately 3,000 new hospital beds.
