The Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) has named Peter Halsall president and CEO.

An engineer and entrepreneur, Halsall has led the growth of a number of companies, including consulting engineering firm, Halsall Associates, and consulting companies Pivotal Projects Ltd. and Loop Initiatives Ltd.

He has achieved much success throughout his career. Last year, Halsall received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Sustainable Buildings Canada. In 2011, he was named a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.

“The CUI plays a central role in shaping our understanding of, and response to, urban issues,” says Halsall. “I look forward to continuing to build the CUI legacy by working with the committed board of directors and employees.”

The CUI is a non-profit organization that supports the development of sustainable urban regions in Canada and around the world. It focuses on applied policy research, technology incubation and civic engagement projects.
