BOMA Toronto celebrates building excellence

About 500 real estate professionals gathered at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in downtown Toronto on May 14 for BOMA Toronto’s 17th annual Celebration of Excellence Awards Gala.

The event honoured the commercial industry across an array of categories including The Building of the Year Award, which was given to six buildings in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

  • Historical Building, Richmond-Adelaide Centre, owner Oxford properties Group and OREC (RAC) Holdings Inc., manager Oxford Properties Group.
  • Suburban Office Park – Mid Rise, Allstate Corporate Centre, owner bcIMC Realty Coporation, manager GWL Realty Advisors Inc.
  • 100,000 to 249,999 square feet, Concorde Corporate Centre, owner Artis Concorde Ltd., manager Crown Property Management Inc.
  • 250,000 to 499,999 square feet, Mississauga Executive Centre 4, owner Desjardin Financial Security Life Assurance Company, AIMCO Realty Investors LP & ONTARI Holdings Ltd., manager Colliers International.
  • 500,000 to one million square feet, 6880 Financial Drive, owner bcIMC Realty Corporation, manager Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP.
  • More than one million square feet, Commerce Court, owner bcIMC Realty Corporation, manager GWL Realty Advisors Inc.

The evening was rounded out with other awards, such as the Pinnacle award for Customer Service, which went to Royal Bank Plaza, owned and managed by Oxford Properties Group.

Attendees applauded another 34 buildings, all of which received Certificates of Building Management Excellence.

Eight Earth Awards were also handed out in recognition of excellence in environmental management, along with five 2015 Earth Hour Challenge awards for best performer or greatest reducer.

Energy and environment issues related to the real estate industry were spotlighted during the course of the gala, with riveting speeches from the Honourable Glen Murray, Ontario minister of environment and climate change, and Kailie Sermat-Harding, assistant deputy minister of conservation and renewable energy division for the ministry of energy.
