The Blue Water Corporate Centre, an office complex in Sarnia, Ontario, has officially received LEED Silver certification.
Opened in 2011 near the busy Canada-U.S. border, the four-storey centre serves as Blue Water Bridge administrative headquarters, while also providing border security and inspection facilities for the Canada Border Services Agency and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
The structure monitors and automatically adjusts and maintains the interior condition of each room to preset measures using a computer-controlled environmental management system.
Other green features include development systems ranging from rainwater recycling and solar water heating to commuter access services and drought–tolerant native landscape plantings.
Toronto-based architecture firm, Norr Limited, served as architect engineer for the project, while McKay Cocker Construction from London, Ont., served as contractor. Toronto’s McCormick Rankin Corporation provided civil engineering services.
The Blue Water Bridge has been in operation since 1938 and was twinned in 1997.
