Laurentian University’s new School of Architecture has hired its first six staff members.
“This is a crucial step in building the foundation of the new School of Architecture,” says Laurentian University president and vice-chancellor, Dominic Giroux. “The fact that all six faculty who were offered positions have accepted is evidence of the excitement surrounding the vision for this new program.”
The professors are:
- Mark Baechler of Teeple Architects Inc.
- Kenneth Chakasim, previously a housing policy analyst with the Ontario Federation of Indian Friendship Centres
- David Fortin, an assistant professor of architecture at Montana State University
- Tammy Gaber, a former adjunct assistant professor in architecture at the University of Waterloo
- Randall Kober, principal at Anarchitectures
- Kai Mah, a former assistant professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago
Laurentian’s School of Architecture is the first new school of architecture in Canada to be launched in more than 40 years. It will welcome its first students in September 2013. Seventy students will be accepted into the four-year program each year.
