Magnovate Technologies is proposing to build a full-sized prototype of a high-speed train system between Edmonton and Calgary, which it alleges will cut the commute between the two cities to less than 45 minutes.

The Edmonton-based company plans to build three full-sized vehicles and a test track in San Jose, Calif., as well as a one-kilometre section of track on University of Alberta land. Total cost of this project is estimated at $15 million.

Stantec is currently working on a track design. PCL Constructors Inc. will be contracted to build it, starting in early 2014.

Additional funding will need to be secured in order to move the project further along.
