Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), the licensing and regulating body for professional engineers and engineering in the province, have appointed a new president and council for the 2015 to 2016 term.

Thomas Chong was named the 96th president at PEO’s annual general meeting. Chong has been president of a 4000-member network since 2008 and currently works as a senior system lead with the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care.

Chong earned his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, and later became a PEO member in 1976. During that year, Northern Telecom Canada had recruited Chong from London, England as a corporate manager.

His credentials were further solidified when he became a fellow of Engineers Canada in 2011 and an International Project Management Professional (PMP) in 2009.

Four women and 22 men make up the new council, which will govern PEO’s 83,000 license and certificate recipients. The group was chosen from various sectors across the province, including industry, academic, government and business.
