David Underwood of Oakville, Ontario, will serve as president of the ASHRAE Society for 2015-16. He was installed at the Society’s recent annual conference where he unveiled the theme, Making Connections, for his term of office — emphasizing the multi-disciplinary strength of 50,000 members with expertise in building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability, and the importance of outreach to industry, communities and governments.

Underwood is the founder of Isotherm Engineering Ltd, a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), ASHRAE Fellow and Life Member, and Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP) who has had a long and successful career in the HVAC&R industry since graduating from the University of Manitoba with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering in 1964.

He is an ASHRAE distinguished lecturer and has served on advisory committees to both the Ontario and Canadian governments, most recently participating in the development of the 2015 Model National Building Code.

As ASHRAE president, Underwood will chair the Society’s board of directors and executive committee. Board members also include Canadians, Douglas Cochrane of Mississauga, Ontario, and Erich Binder of Calgary, who were installed for a three-year term from 2015-2018. Cochrane is engineering sales manager with Carrier Enterprise Canada; Binder is president of Erich Binder Consulting.
