B.C. announces Climate Leadership Team

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

B.C. Premiere Christy Clark has appointed a Climate Leadership Team to oversee the province’s efforts to combat climate change.

With a target date set for the end of November 2015, the team is being asked to provide updates and recommendations on meeting the province’s greenhouse-gas-emission targets across the industrial and transportation sectors and built environment, while collaborating with local governments and First Nations.

Mike Bernier, a Liberal member of the provincial legislature, will chair the team, which is a mix of government, academic, environment, business and community-focused leaders.

“I’m confident the work of the team will stimulate a real debate about B.C.’s future climate change direction, and the best way for us to define a low-carbon future,” said Bernier.

Ahead of November’s deadline, the team will draft a framework for the plan, which will involve a 30-day public consultation on the resulting discussion paper to be produced sometime in December. The final paper will be released to the public in March 2016, following a second consultation.

The Government of British Columbia has compiled a list of the members, along with their bios.
