SMG Worldwide Entertainment and Convention Venue Management last week announced the posting of seven new jobs as it prepares for the August, 2015, opening of the Medicine Hat Regional Events Centre in Alberta. The latest positions, including building engineer and maintenance supervisor, add to the general manager and four directors who have already been hired.
SMG, a company that manages 230 facilities globally, will operate the city-owned events centre once the $74.9-million capital project is complete. The new facility will replace the Medicine Hat Arena, which has almost exhausted its lifespan.
As the future home of the Medicine Hat Tigers, the approximately 194,000-square-foot events centre will be built to Western Hockey League (WHL)/Canadian Hockey League (CHL) standards. The LEED Silver-targeting multi-purpose facility will also be equipped to host other events, such as concerts.
PCL Construction Management won the design-build contract in June, 2013, and is working with design team PBK Architects (now Architecture49).
SMG expects to hire casual food services and security staff in late April.
