Wednesday, May 28, 2014

The 2014 BOMA BC Earth Awards were held on May 22 at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in downtown Vancouver. The event drew 200 industry members to honour outstanding environmentally friendly design and management.

Receiving the Earth Award in the multi-unit residential building category was Residences on Seventh, managed by Colliers International.

The Residences on Seventh was selected as a City of Vancouver sustainable building pilot project in 2003. Some of the green features include a storm water capture system that has decreased the amount of water leaving the site by 88 per cent; 60 geothermal wells and a high-efficiency natural gas boiler; occupancy sensors and a highly reflective coating that allow light to be harvested even on a cloudy day.

There were two winners that tied for first in the Office Building category: 4321 Still Creek managed by Triovest Realty Advisors, and 401 West Georgia managed by Oxford Properties Group.

The Energy Champion award went to Peterson Commercial for 1803 Douglas. The award recognizes a building that has reduced its energy consumption the most as a result of implementing energy efficiency upgrades.
