Harvard Developments Inc. has released its redevelopment plans for Calgary’s Eau Claire Market.
The mixed-use development will consist of 2.5 million square feet spread across five towers. The plans include 1,000 residential units, 800,000 square feet of office space and 550,000 square feet of retail.
The developer has been working with the City of Calgary and a number of community groups to establish the project’s final design. Harvard is now completing the land-use application, which will be submitted by the end of the year.
Construction on the first phase of the project will begin in fall 2014. It is expected to take between 7–10 years to complete the entire redevelopment
Phase one will occur in the southwest portion of Eau Claire’s parking lot. It includes retail and a hotel that has the potential for high-rise condominiums and rental apartments. Eau Claire will continue to operate as a shopping centre until the construction enters its third phase.
