The City of Langley has been named a finalist for the 2013 Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) Brownie Awards.

Langley’s brownfield redevelopment strategy has been shortlisted in three categories: Excellence in Project Development at the Neighbourhood Scale; Legislation, Policy and Program Development; and Communications, Marketing and Public Engagement.

“We are thrilled to be a finalist in three separate categories,” says the City’s acting Mayor, Ted Schaffer. “The brownfield redevelopment strategy is designed to encourage the redevelopment of underused industrial lands by providing a range of strategies and resources to effect change. Over the last decade, we have facilitated some very successful brownfield redevelopment projects, providing the city with $192.9 million in new construction value and more than 850 jobs.”

Presented annually, the Brownie Awards recognize leadership and innovation in urban renewal.

This year’s winners will be announced Oct. 23, at the Canadian Brownfields conference in Toronto.
