The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Canada announced the winners of its 2013 National Awards at BOMEX Oct. 3.
Nine buildings were honoured with a TOBY (The Outstanding Building of the Year) award, which recognizes quality in buildings and excellence in building management.
This year’s award winners are:
- Corporate facility: General Mills in Mississauga, Ont. Owned by Bentall Kennedy Prime Canadian Property Fund Ltd. Managed by Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP.
- Historical building: Le Windsor in Montreal. Owned by Laurentian Weloga Ltd. Partnership. Managed by Magil Laurentian Realty Management Inc.
- Shopping centre: Conestoga Mall in Waterloo, Ont. Owned and managed by Ivanhoe Cambridge Inc.
- Suburban office park (mid-rise): Yonge Corporate Centre in Toronto. Owned and managed by Cadillac Fairview Corp. Ltd.
- Under 100,000 square feet: 6696 Financial Dr. in Mississauga, Ont. Owned by 2725312 Canada Inc. Managed by Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP.
- 100,000 – 249,999 square feet: Calgary Board of Education Tower in Calgary. Owned by BIM CBE Inc. Managed by Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP.
- 250,000 – 499,999 square feet: 1 Dundas St. W. in Toronto. Owned by Ontrea Inc. Managed by Cadillac Fairview Corp. Ltd.
- 500,000 – 1 million square feet: 25 York St. in Toronto. Owned by Menkes Union Tower Inc. Managed by Menkes Property Management Services Ltd.
- Over 1 million square feet: Place Victoria in Montreal. Owned by Stock Exchange Tower Holdings Ltd. Partnership. Managed by Magil Laurentian Realty Management Inc.
Three companies were recognized with Pinnacle Awards for demonstrating “standards of excellence to which all BOMA members and their employees should aspire to.” They are:
- Above and beyond: Garda World in Toronto.
- Customer service: Paladin Security Group Ltd. in Burnaby, B.C.
- Innovation: Stantec in St. John’s, Nfld.
Charles J. Rate from SNC Lavalin O&M in Toronto received the 2013 Chairman’s Award, while 1100 Rene-Levesque Blvd. in Montreal, which is owned by Oxford Properties Group and Groupe Desjardins, was recognized with the 2013 Earth Award.
