The first Canadian Home2 Suites by Hilton hit a construction milestone, with steel studs going up at the site in Edmonton.

Owned and managed by SilverBirch Hotel & Resorts, Home2 Suites by Hilton is a mid-tier, all-suite hotel brand. As part of the brand’s innovative approach, the Edmonton hotel is using 100 per cent recyclable pre-fabricated structural steel studs for the building’s framework instead of the traditional wood frame structure.

“The quick construction pace of the property is a testament to the Home2 Suites model, which allows developers and owners to begin their performance story faster,” says Bill Duncan, global head of Home2 Suites by Hilton.

The brand’s first Canadian hotel will have 123 suites. As part of the Home2Suites brand, amenities are targeted at extended stay travellers. They include easy access to technology, community spaces, grab-and-go food items and a combined laundry and fitness area.

The hotel is set to be completed in summer 2014. SilverBirch is expanding its extended stay portfolios, with Homewood Suites by Hilton in Halifax also currently under construction.
