Vancouver-based developer Hungerford Properties has purchased the former home of Haworth manufacturing. The 761,000-square-foot facility, located in southeast Calgary, is one of the largest buildings in the city.

Hungerford will redevelop the property, which was originally built in 1999 by Morgan Smeds, a local entrepreneur. It has been called one of the most beautifully created office environments in the country.

“This is considered one of the choicest commercial real estate properties in the city,” says Michael Hungerford, partner in the company. “We’re excited about how we will transform this building into a multi-tenanted facility, and how we will bring out expertise in commercial redevelopment and sustainability to add new and innovative features to what was a visionary building.”

The facility consists of approximately 85,000 square feet of office space. The warehouse portion is another 76,000 square feet.

Former building owner, Haworth, will be the first office leasing tenant. New office and warehouse leasing opportunities are now available. Haworth spokesperson, Julie Smith, says the company will begin planning a new showroom in downtown Calgary.

Hungerford will announce its redesign and redevelopment plans for the building later this year.
