Vaughan Mills shopping centre to expand

Ivanhoe Cambridge has announced an $87-million redevelopment and expansion project for Vaughan Mills shopping centre in Vaughan, Ont. Once completed, the mall will feature 19 major tenants and 250 stores within 1.1 million square feet of retail space. The expansion project is set to add roughly 150,000 square feet in gross floor area to accommodate 50 new retailers and bolster the centre’s interior and exterior architectural appeal.

“As one of Ivanhoe Cambridge’s iconic properties, Vaughan Mills reflects the success of our operational platform and our expertise in property management and development,” says David Baffa, vice-president of retail development for the central region of Ivanhoe Cambridge. “We are committed to investing and adding value to our properties and to capitalize on growth opportunities.”

The mall will introduce the following once completed:

  • 50 new retail concepts and three major new tenants, including LegoLand Discover Centre.
  • A newly-designed entertainment court that will be built off the existing “Discover Ontario” theme.
  • Renovations and upgrades to the common areas and food court.
  • A highly visible and distinctive new entrance as part of the centre’s unique design and existing neighbourhood extension.
  • 450 new parking stalls for a total of 6,500 stalls.
  • Upgraded common area elements.

Construction on the expansion is set to begin in spring 2013.
