National Trust fêtes Canadian heritage leaders

The National Trust for Canada has honoured the winners of its 2015 National Leadership Awards. The Prince of Wales Prize, the Gabrielle Léger Medal and Lieutenant Governor’s Award were presented at the National Trust’s National Awards Ceremony in Calgary, Alberta, on October 23, 2015.

The Prince of Wales Prize, which recognizes the government of a municipality that has demonstrated a strong commitment to the conservation of its historic places, was presented to the Town of Grimsby, Ontario.

Grimsby’s achievement extends to more than 30 years of heritage protection through policies and programs, such as community consultation, financial incentives, urban design, youth engagement and education.

Montreal’s Julia Gersovitz was honoured with the Gabrielle Léger Medal for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of her 40-year contribution to heritage conservation in Canada. Edmonton’s Marianne Fedori received the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Heritage Conservation at the provincial level for preserving and promoting the history and heritage of Alberta.
