Purdy’s Wharf in Halifax is the first commercial property in Atlantic Canada to earn LEED EB certification.

The three-building, 694,000 square foot waterfront complex received gold status for executing a number of sustainable initiatives.

Purdy’s Wharf now consumes 34 percent less energy compared to the average commercial office property. This amount of energy saved could power 500 average homes. Additionally, no drinking water is used for irrigation, 75 per cent of waste is diverted from landfills and two out of three occupants are said to carpool or use other forms of commuting.

Property manager GWL Realty Advisors worked with Halsall Associates on the LEED implementation.

Lisa Miller, property manager at GWL Realty Advisors, said tenants also collaborated on the sustainable project.

“Today, Purdy’s Wharf offers a comfortable and environmentally-friendly environment and we applaud our tenants for their efforts in helping make this happen,” Miller said.
