Fire crews spotted thick smoke en route to a condo fire at the 2200 block of 1st Street SW in Calgary that prompted multiple 911 calls at 5:15 a.m. on May 26. According to early reports, the fire may have started on a balcony on the eastern side of the building, though a City of Calgary news release issued later that morning said the scene was under review by Calgary Fire Investigators to determine its origin and cause. Quick action from firefighters blocked the fire from spreading to other parts of the complex.

The two-alarm blaze destroyed four suites in the building, while others had some smoke and water damage. One person suffered minor burns from the fire, with no other injuries reported.
