Ottawa planning committee approves 850 new homes

Wednesday, October 7, 2026

The City of Ottawa’s planning and housing committee approved the construction of a 30-storey mixed-use building on St. Laurent Boulevard in Overbrook. The plans entail 401 new homes, tree-planting areas, and ground-floor commercial space near the St. Laurent Station.  The amendments allow for a taller building with more homes on the site.

On October 7, Ottawa also approved a zoning amendment for a new subdivision on Hazeldean Road near Mantra Street, in Stittsville. The developer aims to build a mix of 347 detached homes, townhomes and apartment-style housing on the site of a driving range that is relocating. The amendment would protect open space along the Carp River, where pathways are planned that would connect to nearby neighbourhoods. Construction cannot begin until approved site work is completed and floodplain maps for the area are updated.

The City Council has set a goal of constructing 151,000 homes in Ottawa by 2031. Tracking began in January 2023. Since then, applications have been approved for more than 74,000 new homes.

If the committee’s recommendations are approved on October 8, developers can move forward with the next steps to build another 832 homes. Since the start of 2026, this committee has recommended planning approvals that would support nearly 4,200 new homes.
