Westport Innovations has signed on as the anchor tenant in Vancouver’s largest transit-oriented office tower outside of downtown.

The Vancouver-based company, which engineers advanced natural gas engines and vehicles, will lease more than 50 per cent of Marine Gateway for its head office, making the building a hub for green jobs. In total, Westport will occupy seven floors of the office tower with more than 500 of its employees.

“It’s important to Westport that we are sustainable across all of our operations, which is why we sought a building with LEED gold certification,” says Karen Hamberg, the company’s vice-president of sustainable energy futures. “Marine Gateway allows us to improve efficiency by consolidating our office staff in one location, with great access to transit and bike routes.”

Developed by PCI Developments Corp., Marine Gateway is the first major development to be approved along the Cambie Corridor since the opening of the Canada Line in 2009. Along with the 14-storey office tower, there will be two condo towers, an 11-screen movie theatre and a 46,000-square-foot grocery store.

The $370-million project is being developed by PCI Developments Corp. Completion is scheduled for 2015.
