On September 10, a single-storey affordable four-plex in Buffalo Narrows, Saskatchewan officially entered construction. The development, featuring 560 square-foot one-bedroom units, will be geared towards single seasonal workers, full-time individuals working year-round in the area and pensioned seniors. It will be located at 1619 Hanson Street in Buffalo Narrows.

“The Mayor and Council of the Northern Village of Buffalo Narrows are pleased to partner with the federal and provincial governments to build the new four-plex singles housing units in the village,” says Estelle Laliberte, Buffalo Narrows Mayor. “We know that won’t take care of all the singles’ housing problems, but it’s a start.  We appreciate the opportunity given to us, to provide at least four units and hopefully we can do more in the future with this kind of partnership.  Thank you from the Northern Village of Buffalo Narrows.”

Through the Investment in Affordable Housing (IAH) agreement, the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan have provided a combined investment of nearly $500,000 to help build the project. The Northern Village of Buffalo Narrows will contribute $225,000 in equity, land and services.

Since 2011, funding from the Government of Saskatchewan has helped create over 5,600 affordable housing units.
