CSA Group and the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) have launched a new alliance to support LEED v4 and CSA Group’s Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) program.
“LEED v4 is highly anticipated and includes changes that require third party verification of buildings and building materials as well as more transparency on the environmental impact of products and systems that go into a building,” says CSA Group president Bonnie Rose.
CaGBC president Thomas Mueller says that LEED v4 puts “a greater emphasis on building performance and material transparency for more building types than ever before.” He adds that CSA Group will provide assessment, technical and training services related to EPDs.
EPDs are somewhat like a nutrition label on a food box. They standardize the measurement of a product or system, listing energy use and efficiency, chemical substances and the materials used in the creation of a product.
