MMM Group achieves LEED CI thrice

Monday, July 15, 2013

Three of MMM Group’s offices have achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Commercial Interiors (LEED CI). Both its Ottawa and Thornhill offices are now LEED CI gold certified, while the company’s Enermodal Enegineering office in Toronto has been awarded LEED CI platinum certification.

At MMM Group’s Ottawa office, staff workstations have low partitions to allow for enhanced daylight penetration. Approximately 90 per cent of all occupied areas have views of the outdoors, allowing for efficient lighting solutions. The reception area contains a living wall and the ceiling is made of reclaimed wood from the Ottawa River. Humidity, carbon dioxide and temperature monitoring systems work together to improve the air quality in the entire office.

The Thornhill office was recognized for using 36 per cent less lighting than a conventional office, as well as 36 per cent less water. This is achieved through daylighting and occupancy sensors as well as low-flow and/or dual-flush fixtures. The building also uses a green housekeeping program.

The company’s Enermodal Engineering office in Toronto was recognized for its central location and access to major amenities. As well, 24 per cent of materials used in the building are made from recycled content and 34 per cent are from local sources.

The LEED CI rating system is applicable to tenant improvements of new or existing office space. It recognizes high-performance green interiors that are healthy, productive places to work, less costly to operate and maintain, and have a reduced environmental footprint.
