Hydro Ottawa offers real-time energy monitor

Hydro Ottawa subsidiary Energy Ottawa Inc. is distributing a new web-based tool so commercial businesses and landlords can better identity building inefficiencies and energy waste.

The Noveda Technologies EnergyFlow Monitor tracks energy and water use in real-time, collecting data from individual meters in one-minute intervals. Users can then access information anytime, anywhere.

Settings can be adjusted based on occupancy patterns and electricity generation, such as solar PV, which can be monitored and graphed.

The RA Centre, Ottawa’s largest recreational and leisure facility, is one property utilizing the suite of tools since they were first introduced in early 2014. The complex can now reportedly measure, manage and allocate costs for areas like arenas, parking lots, outdoor sports fields and its restaurant.

“Having the ability to isolate utility consumption and costs for specific areas of our operation has allowed us to better understand the costs of providing services to our clients,” said Ross Rankin, the centre’s director of facility and property services.
