Passive House components target cold climates

Monday, September 16, 2013

The Passive House Institute has certified three new building components, which will make the design of Passive House buildings easier and more cost-effective in colder climates.

The new products include a skylight from Lamilux and two windows: the ENERsign arctis by Pazen Fenster + Technik and the Rukna-1 from BiTri. All three reach the highest efficiency level possible, class phA.

These certified components will help designers and consultants trying to meet Passive House standards in countries such as Canada and Sweden.

“The new components, which will hopefully be followed by others with the necessary characteristics, will serve such regions well in terms of heightened comfort, affordability and energy efficiency,” says Dr. Benjamin Krick, head of component certification at the Passive House Institute.
