GHG Guide launches for health care facilities

Tuesday, November 25, 2014

Canadian health care facilities are able to further reduce their environmental footprint with the release of a free, critical review tool called Greenhouse Gas and Water Conservation Guide (GHG Guide).

The Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care (the Coalition) is offering the web guide to anyone in the health industry who wishes to utilize strategies and outreach materials on water and GHG management.

“Environment Canada’s EcoAction program is affording us a tremendous opportunity to engage health care facilities across Canada and to assist them in their ongoing quest to reduce their energy consumption and lower their water usage,” says Linda Varangu, executive director of the coalition.

Varangu says the “ready-to-use resources” in the guide, specifically focused to the industry, will appeal to the wider communities the health care sector services.

Many facilities across Canada have become green leaders, upgrading their operations to become more efficient and sustainable in an effort to mitigate climate change.

Recently, The World Health Organization has called upon the health sector to step up its resiliency plans and promote active transportation and conserve more resources. In the process, operating costs decline and resilience in the community increases.

On December 4, the GHG Guide will be released at a free one-hour webinar, where attendees will be directed through different tools contained within the guide. Anyone who wishes to join in the webinar should visit http://www.greenhealthcare.ca/ecoaction/webinar and complete the registration form.
