Toronto’s Planning and Housing Committee calls for more criminal investigation and prosecution of rental housing landlords engaging in fraudulent evictions or chronic property neglect.

Toronto's licensing and standards division has been instructed to develop a colour-coded sign system to signal how rental housing buildings rate in complying with the City’s apartment standards.

Recent changes to RentSafeTO include a more comprehensive evaluation process and heftier fines for non-compliant landlords. 

On November 26th, Toronto City Council voted in favour of amending the RentsafeTO bylaw, based on recommendations from the Planning and Housing Committee to beef up landlord responsibilities.
