Metropia broke ground Wednesday for its Union City condo community in Markham.

A 50-storey condo tower integrated into a turn-of-the-century heritage building is launching in mid-town Toronto.

The home is designed to reduce energy consumption by 60 per cent and carbon emissions by 36 per cent.

A 12-acre master planned community is headed for the growing Unionville neighbourhood of Markham, along Enterprise Boulevard.

Once complete, the tower will feature 593 residences, 43,000 square foot, double-storey retail space, and a brand-new city parkette.

Called 11 Yorkville, the 62-storey development is a joint venture between RioCan Living, Metropia, and Capital Developments, and will introduce 593 suites and retail outlets to the iconic street.
