The effort to unlock surplus federal land for housing is further away from welcoming new residents than the reported numbers may suggest, but the Auditor General of Canada concludes there has been progress.

Surplus federal properties in Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland are set to be repurposed into affordable housing as part of the Federal Lands Initiative.
