NYG hospital issues RFP for new patient tower

Tuesday, September 2, 2025

A request for proposals has been issued for the construction of a new patient care tower at North York General (NYG) that will be part of the hospital’s largest expansion in its 56-year history.

NYG and Infrastructure Ontario partnered with the provincial government to select the team that will deliver the redevelopment project, which will ultimately increase the hospital’s capacity for growing population that is projected to exceed 500,000 in 10 years.

Once complete, the new tower will include patient care spaces and connect to NYG’s existing building, ensuring seamless integration. It will include up to 317 private patient rooms, expanding acute care by up to approximately 100 net-new beds, in addition to larger spaces for other acute care programs and services.

Four teams prequalified through a request for qualification process that began in January 2025. They include PCL Constructors Canada Inc., North York Healthcare Alliance, EllisDon Corporation and Building Beyond Alliance. These teams will be now prepare proposals that detail how they would deliver the projects.

As part of the design, the Canada Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system and the Toronto Green Standard, will be used to guide planning and design.
