A new book on the history of facilities management, including the complex political, economic and commercial environment that has been a factor in the development of the discipline internationally, is set to be published in late 2017.

The book will be co-authored by longtime FM expert Lionel Prodgers, founder of the first FM company in the UK, and experienced FM writer and academic Brian Atkin. The book will cover the period from post-World War II to present day and will include the successes and failures of government policies, corporate enterprise such as mergers and acquisitions as well as the most influential personalities, institutions, businesses and educators globally that have helped the profession grow internationally.

“I have been thinking for some time that we needed a defining record of FM for business management and study,” said Prodgers, in a press release. “I am thrilled to now be embarking on this project with Brian and look forward to sharing the finished work with the FM and wider business community.”

“Having written major works on facilities management, I am delighted to be working with Lionel to record the history of this key discipline,” said Atkin.
