Market to lure foodies to North Van waterfront

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

The developer of a mixed-use, master-planned community on North Vancouver’s waterfront sees it as a future draw for foodies and related business ventures. Concert Properties recently secured a municipal permit for an outdoor market to be known as Hawkers Wharf, and aims to provide local culinary entrepreneurs with a commissary kitchen and retail space by the spring of 2016.

The effort is meant to help animate the 12-acre site now in the planning stages of a massive phased development. Ultimately, its developers envision that Harbourside will sport 700 condominium units, 100 rental apartments, a 100,000-square-foot hotel, more than 200,000 square feet of office space and 40,000 square feet of retail.

“The Hawkers Wharf initiative ties into the long-term vision for Harbourside as an artisanal food destination,” communications from Concert Properties affirms. “The intention is for a more permanent version of Hawkers Wharf to be integrated within the completed Harbourside development.”

The developer has teamed with Chris Jerome, creator of Hawkers Market food related events, which have gained a following in Vancouver.
