As part of World FM Day 2016, held on July 13, the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) are extending praise to all facility management (FM) professionals around the world for the vital role they play in shaping our built environment.
Celebrations for World FM Day are taking place globally from July 11 to 15 with the theme “empowering people for a productive world.”
According to IFMA, professionals within the FM industry manage 85 per cent of the total cost of building ownership to ensure facilities are productive, efficient, safe, sustainable and strategically put to use. Recently, the FM profession has advanced to become a fundamental part of several organizations.
As the FM industry has advanced, the professionals that support operations behind the scenes to help improve the built environment are now at the forefront of contributing to achieving major strategic objectives. At this scale, even small changes in management practices can cause significant expenses and reductions in performance. This is why international standards and guidelines were required to form the framework for the newest FM advances.
In response, IFMA and RICS announced its collaboration in April 2016, with the intention of allowing FM professionals to connect to a global network of education, events, research, best practices and support. By connecting the FM community in this way, it is helping to secure the future of individual practitioners and the industry overall.
