Interior and exterior construction on Halton Healthcare’s new Oakville hospital has reached completion, with the new healthcare facility slated to provide patient services beginning in December 2015. Between now and then, the hospital will continue to transition into the new facility.

The new Oakville hospital was designed, built and financed by Hospital Infrastructure Partners, who will also maintain the facility. At 1.6 million square feet, the state-of-the-art hospital will be able to accommodate 457 patients. It will also feature a full range of health services such as maternal child, critical care, emergency, medical surgical, complex continuing care, rehabilitation, diagnostics, ambulatory care and a variety of support services as well as inpatient/outpatient adult, child and adolescent mental health services.

“This is the biggest investment any government has ever made in Oakville, and it gives the town and the region the space and the resources needed for healthy growth,” said Kevin Flynn, MPP for Oakville, in a press release. “With improved mental health and cancer care services, this great new facility will provide a safe and welcoming place for residents throughout all stages of life, and it will allow Oakville’s health care professionals to build on the stellar reputation for professionalism and innovation they’ve created over the years.”

The Government of Ontario has committed up to $2.27 billion to the project, which broke ground in September 2011. The investment came as part of Ontario’s infrastructure investment plan to provide more $130 billion over 10 years to improve the lives of Ontario residents.
