BOMA Toronto wins energy conservation award

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

BOMA Toronto’s Conservation and Demand Management (CDM) Program has been honoured with the Energy Project of the Year (Canada Region) award from the Association of Energy Engineers.

The award, which recognizes achievements being made in energy, was handed out at the World Energy Engineering Congress in Washington, D.C.

“BOMA Toronto is honoured to receive this award. It reinforces how committed we are to energy conservation in Ontario,” says Chris Conway, president and chief staff officer of BOMA Toronto.

BOMA Toronto is the only association in Ontario to have delivered a CDM program directly to end users. The program saw an average annual growth of 100 per cent in savings over four years. In its last quarter, it saw a record high 13 megawatts (MW) of conservation.

The program accepted applications between March 2007 and December 2010, and officially wrapped up in 2012. It was funded by the Ontario Power Authority, and served both BOMA Toronto members and the commercial real estate industry at large.

The CDM Program delivered more than 50 MW of conservation — enough energy to supply more than 15,000 homes for a year — by the end of 2010. It provided the foundation for the current province-wide program.
