BOMA Calgary fetes TOBY Award winners

Commercial real estate professionals gathered in Calgary for the TransCanada BOMA Excellence Awards, held on May 12, 2016, at the Westin.

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Calgary (BOMA Calgary) celebrates industry leaders responsible for high performing buildings in the city.

“The TransCanada BOMA Excellence Awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognize the impressive achievements of commercial real estate professionals in Calgary and southern Alberta,” said Lloyd Suchet, executive director of BOMA Calgary. “Each award recipient has truly demonstrated excellence in their category, and has served to raise the standards of our industry.”

The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Awards recognize all facets of a building’s operation, along with its management. The 2016 winners are:

  • Medical Building, East Calgary Health Centre, Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP.
  • Historical Building, Lougheed House, Alberta Infrastructure.
  • Retail Building, Westhills Towne Centre, Triovest Realty Advisors Inc.
  • Industrial Building, Foothills VII, Triovest Realty Advisors Inc.
  • Under 100,000 square feet, Quarry Park Professional,  Artis REIT.
  • 100,000 – 249, 999 square feet, Plaza 1000, Triovest Realty Advisors Inc.
  • 250,000 – 499,999 square feet, Intact Place, Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP.
  • More than 1 million square feet, Eighth Ave Place,  Hines Canada Management.

The Earth Award, which BOMA Calgary refers to as “the most rigorous of the awards standards,” was given to 639 5 Ave SW, Equium Group. Meanwhile, the Pinnacle Award for Innovation was given to ENMAX Energy for their District Energy Centre.

Throughout the evening, specific teams were recognized for their expertise. This year’s Property Management Team of the Year award went to Bow Valley Square, Oxford Properties Group, while the Building Operations Team of the Year award went to Keynote One Office Tower, Triovest Realty Advisors.

Individual awards were also handed out. Matthew Topolovich of Aspen Property Management won the Building Operator of the Year award, while Tanya Marsh, property manager with Cadillac Fairview was given the Malcolm Bryce Award, which pays homage to the spirit of volunteerism, and acknowledges the contributions of BOMA Calgary’s volunteers.

  1. Congratulations, not only on hosting an outstanding TOBY Awards dinner but also on taking BOMA Calgary to a whole new level. As a Past President of BOMA Calgary and BOMA Canada I have taken a particular interest in watching BOMA Calgary evolve to a national leader in volunteer services.
