A new agreement from the Governments of Canada and Yukon will help Yukoners in housing need, including seniors, persons with disabilities and families. Through the Investment in Affordable Housing (IAH) agreement, Yukon residents will have access to initiatives including new construction, renovation, rent supplements and accommodations for victims of family violence.

A combined investment from both levels of government in the sum of $16 million will support the agreement over the next five years.

“Our Government is proud to partner with the Yukon to invest in affordable housing,” says Candice Bergen, Minister of State for Social Development. “This bilateral agreement recognizes the diverse housing needs of this region and allows the Yukon the flexibility to decide how to allocate this substantial investment according to their local needs and priorities.”

Since 2011, the IAH has helped 203 households in the Yukon. Under the agreement, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) will provide the Yukon Housing Corporation with $1.575 million, annually, to support affordable housing developments.
