VRCA Gold Award winners announced

EllisDon took top honours at the 2014 Vancouver Regional Construction Association’s (VRCA) Awards of Excellence, held on October 16th in downtown Vancouver. The two Gold General Contractor awards were received in recognition of the Surrey Memorial Hospital Critical Care Tower and TRIUMF ARIEL at UBC.

This year’s competition had 149 total entrants and 31 projects up for consideration. Since the competition first launched 26 years ago the value of the projects has grown, with this year’s competition representing $1.5 billion of construction throughout B.C.

The association’s Gold Awards went to 12 winners for their use of special techniques and procedures, new materials and additional artistic or innovative features in their projects.

The Surrey Memorial Hospital project (pictured above) was a multiple Silver Award winner and also took home the Gold Electrical Contractor Award for Houle Electric.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Hank Paquin of Sasco Contractors. Anibal Valente of PCL Constructors Westcoast was inducted into VRCA’s life members.
