Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Six Vancouver hospitality interior design firms have teamed up with six aboriginal artists to create Skwachàys Lodge, Canada’s first aboriginal boutique arts hotel.

The hotel, located in Vancouver’s Gastown neighbourhood, is scheduled to open in May 2014. The designers donated their design services and collaborated with aboriginal artists to create the 18 unique rooms to showcase their artwork manifested through various media including paintings, carvings, textiles and murals.

Each room will have its own theme and indigenous art works. For example, room 502 will be the water suite. Designed by BBA Design Consultants, furniture concepts include a river rock headboard.

The five other design firms are B and H Chil Design, Inside Design Studio, MCM Interiors Ltd., Porada Design Group and Portico Design Group.
