TransLink is contributing more than $45 million in funding this year to British Columbia municipalities for road projects across Metro Vancouver.

As outlined in TransLink’s 2014 Base Plan, $39 million of this is annual funding earmarked to operate, maintain and rehabilitate the regional Major Road Network (MRN). The MRN consists of more than 600 kilometres of major arterial roads that carry the bulk of the region’s commuter, transit and truck traffic.

The contribution also commits $6.7 million to 22 capital improvement road and bicycle projects in 12 Metro Vancouver municipalities.

Projects being funded within the 2014 MRN program include the four-lane widening of Fraser Highway in the Township of Langley, the Tannery Greenway multi-use pathway in Surrey, and the Murray Street bikeway extension in Port Moody

Since 1999, TransLink has committed more than $420 million to municipalities to operate, maintain and rehabilitate the MRN. The funds go toward necessary work, including street cleaning and snow removal, maintaining streetlights, traffic signals and signs, patching potholes and pavement rehabilitation.
