Plans unveiled for Edmonton’s tallest building

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

The construction of a new 62-storey tower, destined to become Edmonton’s tallest building and one of the highest structures in Western Canada, will begin this fall.

The Edmonton Arena District (EAD) joint venture between Katz Group and WAM Development Group will partner with Stantec to help develop a high-rise that mixes office, retail and residential space, a new benchmark for the EAD.

“This new building will revolutionize the downtown landscape in Edmonton and will set expectations for future buildings in the city,” said Darren Durstling, President and CEO of WAM Development Group. “This tower is being designed, engineered and project managed entirely by Stantec, showcasing their vast capabilities and experience.”

Daryl Katz, Chairman of the Katz Group, says he’s confident the LEED Gold certified tower, which will also house the new global headquarters for Stantec, will advance the continuing growth of the EAD.

The building is scheduled to open in summer 2018.
