New programs launch for building operators

Monday, September 29, 2014

GWL Realty Advisors announced the launch of two new programs on September 25 and 26. The programs include a nine-week Building Operator Certification for operations staff in Toronto and Calgary and a Building Operator Partnership Program, designed to provide hands-on experience for the next generation of building operators. The latter will feature a three-month co-op placement and a Building Operator Award (scholarship) that will financially assist a student pursuing a career in building operations.

“At GWL Realty Advisors, career development and training is very important so the launch of a dedicated program to assist in addressing the property management talent gap was a natural fit for us,” says Michele Walkau, Senior Vice President, Corporate Services at GWL Realty Advisors. “With a portfolio of 287 properties (57.9 million square feet) under management, we are well positioned to be a part of the solution by providing a hands-on learning environment and talent to attract the next generation of building operators to our company.”

The Building Operator Partnership Program and scholarship will be open to Seneca College students enrolled in the Building Systems Engineering Technology Program in Toronto, ON. GWL Realty Advisors will be working with the Canadian Energy Institute of Training (CIET) and the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) to roll out the Building Operator Certification program in Toronto and Calgary.

“Broadening the knowledge of our building operators positions [our staff] for progression in the company,” says Charles Stade, Vice President, National Commercial Property Management at GWL Realty Advisors. “A building operator that has been trained to achieve operational efficiency on a variety of systems, old and new, is able to take advantage of new opportunities at other buildings under our management.”
