Mixed-use condo planned for Toronto Beaches

The Beech House, a 95-unit mixed-use condo complex, will call Toronto’s Beaches community home in September 2017, if all goes according to plan. The five-storey building will include a YMCA at ground level and green features to help reduce its carbon footprint.

Design firm Mitchell Lofts is partnering with the YMCA on the project, which is expected to enter construction in spring 2015. The collaborative development is the vision of Robert Mitchell, president of Mitchell Lofts.

“On one level, it’s a matter of one plus one equals three,” says Mitchell. “The Y had been looking to expand their role in our neighbourhood and we were looking to develop more in the area. So we partnered together to create a unique development in the community.”

Environmentally-friendly building features will include a green roof, an on-site stormwater retention system, LED lighting in suites and common areas, high efficiency heat pumps, electric car power stations and dark sky lighting.

Suites, ranging from 800 to 2,250 square feet, will feature nine to 20-foot ceilings, private rooftop terraces, gas fireplaces and luxury bathrooms. Residents will also have access to underground parking and a two-year membership to the YMCA, scheduled to open in spring 2017.
