Maplewood Hotels and Resorts is teaming up with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) to develop 15 new Candlewood Suites hotels in Canada.
Candlewood Suites hotels are targeted at extended-stay travellers, boasting a “home-like hotel experience.” The hotels feature a combination of studio and one-bedroom suite floor plans, which include a fully equipped kitchen and complimentary Internet access. One-bedroom suites also have a sofa bed in the unit.
“We believe that the extended stay business model is largely under-represented in Canada and our agreement with IHG presents a significant opportunity to introduce extended stay properties across the country,” says Glenn Squires, CEO of Pacrim.
Formed in 2013, Maplewood is a joint venture between Driftwood Hospitality Management and Pacrim Hospitality Services Inc. Driftwood has 12 IHG-branded hotels in its portfolio, located across the United States, while Pacrim owns or operates 11 IHG-branded hotels across Canada. Pacrim opened Canada’s first Candlewood Suites hotel in Montreal in 2007.
“Canada is a key market for growth for IHG,” says Joel Eisemann, chief development officer of IHG. “Both Pacrim and Driftwood are long-time strategic partners for us in Canada and the U.S.”
