LCBO Express stores to open across Ontario

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Several LCBO Express stores will be accessible to Ontarians inside large grocery stores by the end of 2014. The locations will carry a selection of the LCBO’s best-selling beer, wine and spirits.

Any retailer interested in having an LCBO Express store added to their location must be able to accommodate at least 2,000 square feet of retail space. The LCBO issued a request for proposals on April 1, 2014 for up to seven express stores. It will be accepting proposals until May 9, 2014.

“Ontarians have been asking for greater access and convenience to buy their favourite beer, bottle of wine, or spirit,” says Minister of Finance Charles Sousa. “These new express stores are a way to balance that convenience with social responsibility while further supporting our local industries.”

The new LCBO Express stores are part of the Ontario government’s economic plan to create new jobs and promote strategic partnerships.

“We are pleased to be moving forward with the express store pilot concept,“ says Bob Peter, president and CEO of the LCBO. “This innovative addition to our expanding store network will enhance our ability to provide one-stop, responsible alcohol service in more Ontario communities.”
