IDC names new president & board directors

The Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) announced the appointment of a new president and board of directors at its annual meeting, held this year at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Denis Chouinard, senior advisor at Desjardins Group in Lévis, Que. and a long-time member of the Association of Professional Interior Designers of Quebec, will take over the role of IDC president.

“I am pleased to be taking on the role of IDC president,” he says. “I look forward to continuing to advance IDC’s mandate of promoting the profession of interior design locally, nationally and internationally.”

Former IDC president, Ada Bonini of Bob’s Your Uncle Design Inc. in Vancouver B.C., has accepted the role of past president, while current member Aandra Currie Shearer of Kindrachuk Agrey Architecture in Richmond, B.C., will be first vice-president.

Clinton Hummel of Paisley Park Inc. in North Bay ON, also a current member, will be second vice-president, while David Gibbon of LWG Architectural Interior, ON assumes the position of chair of the board of governors.

New board members include:

  • Sally Mills, owner of Omicron AEC Ltd., B.C., as provincial member
  • Fran Underwood, owner of Underwood & Moore Interior Designers, NS, as provincial member.
  • Caroline Robbie-Montgomery, principal at Quadrangle Architects Limited, ON, as provincial member.
  • Jason Kasper, principal at IDEATE Design Consulting Inc., MB, as Director at Large.
  • Karin Vandenberg of McCallum Sather Architects Inc., ON, as Director, Intern.
  • Andy Stilin of 3M – Architectural Markets, B.C., as Director, Industry.
  • Amy Barbour, interior designer at Stantec Architecture Ltd., NL, as Provisional Director.

Two fellowships for distinguished service were awarded to Victoria Horobin, principal at KBH Interior Design in Toronto, ON, and Adele Bonetti, principal at Concetto Interior Design Ltd. in Grande Prairie, AB.

The IDC also celebrated one honourary member—Susan Wiggins, chief executive officer at the Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) in Toronto, for her contribution to the greater recognition or betterment of the interior design profession.
